Parent participation is required at the score table for all matches where we are the "home" team and a line judge is needed for all matches. New for 2023, all volunteers must be 21 or older and have completed the GHSA online clinic. You can choose volleyball score keeping and/or line judges. Once you have completed the clinic you will need to forward your certificate to your teams head coach.
The info provided below is just as a general idea of what each job requires. Please reference the GHSA videos for detailed info. Score Flipper: flips the score -You watch the ref and flip the side they pointed to. -If the ref puts their fists together with thumbs up it means redo, so if you flipped then just flip the score back. -If team on the right scores then flip the right side for them. Team on the left scores so you flip the left for them.
Libero Tracker: here is a helpful video to refresh your skills -Tracks the Libero going in and out and other player subsitutions. -Each team gets 18 subs, the libero does not count towards the sub count. -When the libero goes in you put an L beside the number they came in for. Do not slash the L or the number the libero came in for. -When they come out you write the number for the player going back in, it has to be the same player. So if Libero goes in for 6 then 6 has to be the one to come back in. If #12 subs in for #6 then the libero can come in for 12 but then 12 has to be the one to come back in for the libero. -When a regular sub happens slash the number of the player coming out and write the number of the player going in. Keeping up with subs is very helpful for the scorebook and at times will be referenced by the official if there is a question. -The libero can only serve in one position. When the libero serves you should put a triangle over that position number. The libero or the players they are replacing can now only serve in that line. -If you notice that the libero or anyone else is serving out of turn you should check with the scorekeeper and notify the official. What is a Libero? The libero is a player specialized in defensive skills: the libero must wear a contrasting jersey color from his or her teammates and cannot block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net height. When the ball is not in play, the libero can replace any back-row player, without prior notice to the officials.
Scorekeeper: a helpful video to refresh your skills -We only get 18 subs so when a team subs you will mark it. There is a number line on the score sheet. -If at any point you feel confused let the ref know so they can help sort it. -If you notice the wrong person is serving let the ref know right away.
Line Judge: Stands on a designated corner to help the ref spot where the ball hits, if it's touched, and if the server foot faults. The ref will go over all of this with you before the game. -If ball is out hold the flag up, if no flag then hold hand up. -If ball is in point the flag down, if no flag point down. The ball is in if it touches the line. -If the ball hits the antenna, point at the antenna and wave the flag in a circle around your head. -If the ball is touched by a player before going out, hold the flag up and place one hand on top of the flag.
